San Diego Zoo - Anniversary Trip

feeding a Binturong
We spent the last few days at the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary. We got married at the Safari park so it seemed like the perfect place to celebrate. We also love any reason for a weekend at the zoo.

Our Wedding!

So remember when we went on vacation weeks ago? I've made a few post about the last part of our vacation like our visit to the San Diego Zoo and Legoland. Well now to start with the first part!
Well the first part of our many weeks away started off with lots of family and friends coming in for our wedding!  We got married on June 23. I'm very slow at blogging,  but I'm finally taking the time to sit down and blog about. Plus I've now got pictures to show you and blog posts are more fun with photos.

Last week, between my return to work and a full calendar of social engagements, I have been finding places for all the wedding decorations that survived. The paper flowers have gone back to the ceiling in a more organised way.

However there are still quite a few paper flowers and dinosaurs still in need of a home. As evidenced by this box of bags of origami.
Organization for the Squshies continues to increase thanks to our new DIY whiteboard =)
The cup hooks holding pens make it especially fancy.

The Honeymoon is over

Now that I'm married (and back from our amazing week of vacation) things are supposed to get difficult right? Well I welcome difficulty, I can't wait to start working on new things with Danielle. The wedding was fantastic, thanks to the zoo and everyone who came. There'll be a lot more pictures soon, but this should serve as illustration for now:

There were wooden dinosaurs, paper dinosaurs, plastic dinosaurs, and Live Freaking Animals! all over the wedding =)

And now I intend to have a little rest, then continue doing awesome things. Gotta plan for zoo part two, the anniversary party =)

So many details

It's strange spending so much time working up to what is essentially just one big party. Certainly it is a thing worth celebrating, and a lot of fun making our own decorations and everything, but I am looking forward to spending some time not worrying about so many details.

So I've been reading an interesting book, called "The $100 Startup" and thinking a lot about

Essentially what we've been doing with (mostly Danielle) and how to make that work better. I find I am extremely interested in making new things, and if I can find a way for people to pay me to learn how to make things that would be optimal haha.

Other things that have been getting done are, of course, wedding things. Now that we have the actual license to sign, and these awesome rings!

They look better in person than under studio lights.

All of the absolute must have items are accounted for. Which makes things less stressful in general, just gotta sort out who's sitting where...

missed a week (working on wedding)

Dang! missed a week!

Not sure how to make up for slacking off on a self imposed schedule on a blog no one reads...

Moving on then. No nice finished project pictures this time either, haven't been very photographic lately. Which isn't to say that nothing's been finished. It's just that most of my project work these last 2 weeks has been wedding related (or based in the vague land of computer programs and 3d modeling).

Making progress (I have to keep reminding myself) putting some finishing touches on the t-rex arches, hammering out some of the seemingly endless small decisions that have to be made, hiring someone to do the actual ceremony, finding music, looking for maid of honor's dress, trying to make sure the cheetah can attend, making hundreds of origami flowers out of animal print paper, looking for rings (still looking), etc.

It feels like the closer we get to the wedding, the more things there are that we just have not thought about... It certainly will be nice not to have to think about them any more. Wedding planner is not on my list of potential careers =)

I've been quite busy this week but somehow don't have any pictures to show. Still I must post something, since I did in fact work on projects, just nothing I've had the chance to photograph.

Work on needle felted dinosaurs is ongoing... ideas for getting our felt decorations seen on the internet are moving along slowly... new designs are getting done frequently... steadily learning more and more about rigging characters for animation in blender... wore a tuxedo as best man at a wedding (guess I'll have pictures of that eventually)... and played a ridiculous game of D&D with people I haven't seen in a decade, in which a drunken dwarf stole 14 pounds of meet during a battle where our enemies never once managed to hit us...

I think it's been a pretty good week.

double T-Rextravaganza!

Cutting is done! The T-Rex arch needs only some sanding and sealing to be completely finished.

T-Rex in the living room

Here it is, completed, and supporting its own weight for several days. This 8 foot tall wooden T-Rex still needs a few finishing touches, but with this the test phase is over. I know it works and is stable, so it's time to buy more wood and build the second half of the T-Rex wedding arch. Now you may bask in it's glory...
